  • Excels in basic html and css, headline and caption writing, photo editing, and writing with attention to grammar, AP style, accuracy and clarity, as demonstrated in the final story project. The project includes a lively text, video or audio story, external links, photos, a banner graphic and interactive elements, such as charts, maps, video or audio.

  • And all links work; all photos are in focus; all graphics and charts are clear, properly labeled and complementary to the text; headlines, captions and other text are free of mistakes and are clearly written; Web design is responsive.
  • Shows above-average competence in basic html and css, headline and caption writing, photo editing, and writing with attention to grammar, AP style, accuracy and clarity, as demonstrated in the final story project. The project includes a text, video or audio story, external links, photos, a banner graphic and interactive elements, such as charts, maps, video or audio.

  • And nearly all links work; photos are in focus; graphics and charts are generally clear, properly labeled and complementary to the text. Headlines, captions and other text may have one mistake but are generally well written; Web design is responsive. Could also include small mistakes in AP style, grammar or clarity.
  • Shows average competence in basic html and css, headline and caption writing, photo editing, and writing with attention to grammar, AP style, accuracy and clarity, as demonstrated in the final story project. All required elements have been included.

  • But there could be a couple of problems in the work checklist. Text for story, script, captions or headlines may be slightly confusing, include a mistake or have small problems with AP style and grammar; graphics and charts may need sharpening in focus or labeling; photos are in focus but may not be the best suited for the story; audio or video may need more clarity or improvements in composition, lighting or sound; a link may not work. Or Web design is responsive but may look busy/cluttered on a laptop.
  • Shows poor skills in basic html and css, headline and caption writing, photo editing, and writing with attention to grammar, AP style, accuracy and clarity, as demonstrated in the final story project. The project may be missing key elements from the list of requirements: text or a video or audio story, external links, photos, a banner graphic and interactive elements, such as charts, maps, video or audio.

  • And there are three or more problems in the work checklist: links may not work; a photo may be out of focus; graphics and charts may be unclear and poorly labeled. There could be multiple problems with clarity or accuracy in headlines, captions and other text; Web design may not be fully responsive. Could also include mistakes in AP style, grammar or clarity.
  • Shows unpublishable work in basic html and css, headline and caption writing, photo editing, and writing with attention to grammar, AP style, accuracy and clarity, as demonstrated in the final story project. The project may not have been turned in; or it may include plagiarized work; or it may include libelous information in the story.

  • If turned in, it may include so many missing key elements from the list of requirements that it could not be published without major reporting, editing or design work. Multiple links may not work; photos may be missing or out of focus; graphics and charts may be missing, unclear or poorly labeled. There could be multiple problems with clarity or accuracy or style in headlines, captions and other text; Web design is unresponsive.
