8: Outcome description:
Students will demonstrate preparedness for the media job market through their resumes and published clips. (Students upload a resume and a PDF file containing links to four clips —text, photos, audio, video and/or photos or other visuals — depending on their focus.).

  • Student's resume lists name and contact information (minimum of email address and phone) plus details on Education, Journalism Jobs, Honors and Awards. The resume is neat, easy to scan and free from substantive, style and grammar errors.


  • Published clips show a range of reporting and writing skills (breaking news/ in-depth stories /features), and, if broadcast- or multimedia-focused, include photos, video or audio reported and edited by the student. Leads are strong, the points of the stories are clear, writing is well organized, reporting is fair and objective.


  • Student writing/ reporting /editing/multimedia is polished and at the level of a recent college graduate.
  • Student's resume lists name and contact information (minimum of email address and phone) plus details on Education, Journalism Jobs, Honors and Awards. The resume is neat, easy to scan and free from substantive, style and grammar errors.


  • Published clips show a range of reporting and writing skills (breaking news/ in-depth stories /features), and, if broadcast- or multimedia-focused, include photos, video or audio reported and edited by the student. Leads are generally good, the points of the stories are clear, writing is generally well organized, reporting is fair and objective.


  • Student writing/ reporting /editing / multimedia is generally polished and at the level of a college senior.
  • Student's resume lists name and contact information (minimum of email address and phone) plus details on Education, Journalism Jobs, Honors and Awards. The resume is neat and free from substance errors, but could be written with more clarity or better attention to AP style.


  • Published clips show some range of reporting and writing skills. Leads and points of stories may need sharpening, writing may need organizational help and better clarity, but reporting is fair and objective.


  • The portfolio needs more polish, but student might be considered for trainee positions.
  • Student's resume lists name and contact information (minimum of email address and phone) plus details on Education, Journalism Jobs, Honors and Awards. The resume may include a substantive error, need more clarity and need better attention to AP style.


  • Published clips show little range of reporting and writing skills, and clips would have benefitted from a strong edit to improve focus, clarity and flow, or additional reporting to make the story more fair and accurate.


  • Student may have fewer than four published clips.


  • Writing/ reporting /editing need more polish for student to be considered for any jobs.
  • Student's resume may be missing key details, include one or more substantive errors and need better attention to AP style and grammar.


  • Student has no published clips and is not ready to be evaluated by a professional.
